Montessori education and care across five neighborhood campuses
Montessori at NTMC

An environment prepared for development.

Montessori education begins with respect for the child, careful observation, purposeful materials, meaningful choices, and time to become deeply engaged.

The prepared environment

A Montessori classroom is intentionally arranged so children can see possibilities, make choices, use materials independently, and participate in caring for the classroom community. Order is not decoration—it helps the child orient, concentrate, and act with increasing confidence.

The child’s activity

NTMC wants the activity of the child to be self-directed. The adult prepares, observes, models, and intervenes thoughtfully rather than controlling every moment. Children are given developmentally appropriate freedom within clear limits.

The goal is not simply to finish an activity. The deeper work is concentration, coordination, independence, problem solving, social development, and a growing sense of capability.

A broad curriculum

Children encounter language, mathematics, science, geography, art, music, physical movement, practical life, sensory exploration, nature, and social grace at levels appropriate to their development.

Montessori in everyday life

  • A toddler carries a tray, pours carefully, cleans a spill, and tries again.
  • A preschooler repeats a material until a pattern becomes clear.
  • An educator pauses before helping, allowing a child time to solve a manageable problem.
  • Children practice waiting, observing, choosing, restoring materials, and caring for shared spaces.
Developmental progression

The environment changes as the child changes.

Materials, movement, routines, language, and responsibilities evolve from infancy through the preschool years and beyond.
